Who makes a great franchisee?
- What are you passionate about? Passion is the single most common trait among our owners and drives them to be successful every day. Our owners are fiercely passionate about our product, our brand, our people and our customers. They understand the value of each customer’s Abbott’s experience and work tirelessly to ensure every customer leaves happier than when they arrived. They are also passionate about their ability as an owner to create lasting value for themselves and their families, along with the confidence that self-sufficiency and the achievement of their goals for income, lifestyle, wealth and equity brings.
- Being a good neighbor – Our owners understand the value of making a positive impact in their communities. They are constantly giving back through donations, fundraising or sponsorships. Each franchisee is dedicated to being more than just a business in town, they are committed to being an active participant in their community.
- Personable – Abbott’s franchisees love people. They love working with their teams, serving their customers and meeting people in the community. Their personalities are truly the heart and sole of their business and allow them to be successful.
- Previous restaurant experience is not a prerequisite. Our franchisees come from a variety of backgrounds including a former buyer for a Fortune 500 consumer retail company, a real estate agent, district sales manager, family services practitioner, restaurant manager, certified public accountant and former Abbott’s employees. We even have second generation franchisees on our team.
Owner Testimonials
Cathe Petrus (second generation owner of an Abbott’s in Webster, NY)
As a second generation owner, you have the historical knowledge of the frozen dessert industry that many people do not. Can you tell us what sets Abbott’s apart from the rest of the market?
“Abbott’s has always done three things exceptionally well. They support their franchisees like we are family. There is an incredible amount of time and effort that goes into supporting each store. I know that if I tried to run Cathy’s frozen custard I would fall flat on my face. They are also committed and focused on doing what we do best and sticking to it. When the latest trend was to mix toppings into ice cream on a cold slab, we did not chase it and when frozen yogurt came back from the dead, we did not chase that fad either. Abbott’s HQ has always kept their eye on the ball. Finally, the people we have supporting us are amazing. The team is so helpful, friendly and truly wants us to succeed that it really is a pleasure working with them.”
MaryPat Dauria (multi unit owner in Massachusetts)
Why did you become a franchisee?
My husband and I grew up enjoying Abbott’s in Rochester, NY. When we moved to Massachusetts, we quickly realized there were a number of ice cream places but nothing, not even the local farms had anything like Abbott’s Frozen Custard. I had always wanted to open a business of my own after being in the consumer retail industry for 10 years so when we heard Abbott’s was franchising we immediately jumped at the opportunity to bring this 100 year old brand to the Massachusetts market.
Scott and Kaity Bagley (multi unit owners in New York)
What do you love most about being an Abbott’s franchisee?
Scott- “ I love running the custard, making sure it is just perfect and getting the store ready for the day. For me, it’s all about the taste and the look a customer gives me when they take their first bite”
Kaity – “While I appreciate Scott’s enthusiasm for running the custard, being a mom, I love the flexibility this business provides me. I know I can pick up my daughter from school, or drop her off at her friend’s house. To me that is invaluable”
